If as expected Chelsea complete the signing of Demba Ba then I hope that Rafa Benitez has the nuts to immediately bench a misfiring Fernando Torres and put the Senegalese international straight into our starting line up in the Premier League.
With Ba scoring goals for fun in a struggling team, it is exciting to think the damage he could inflict if given as many chances as Fernando Torres has squandered this season alone.
Don’t get me wrong I know Torres is working hard and the goals he has scored show that he does have a little bit of magic left in him.
Sadly this season even under Benitez he still looks stuck in second gear and if we are to compete we need our lone striker to be putting fear into the hearts of defenders and Torres does not fit this bill.
With Ba cup-tied in the Europa League there will still be a big role for Torres to fill in that competition and I expect we will see some rotation between the two but I want to see Ba given a real chance to stake a claim as our first choice striker.
Regardless of price tag in the last two years Ba is the form striker and if we sign him I fail to see how you could justify picking Torres week in and week out.
